Why Your Shirt Should Never Be an Afterthought

A lot of times when we picture ourselves buying a suit, we think specifically about the pants and the jacket, and that’s it. This means that the shirt is often seen as what goes on “under” the suit, and sometimes even the tie is given more attention because we mistakenly think that the shirt simply won’t be seen as much.

So then what happens when the jacket comes off, or if you’re going to a place where a jacket isn’t really necessary?  Now you’ve just got a nice tailored suit or a nice pair of pants, and a blatantly ill-fitting, discount shirt that came straight from a clearance bin or an inexpensive online retailer. The ironic part is, if you deliberately settle for a cheap shirt thinking that no one will notice it under your jacket, by definition it becomes the one part of your outfit that really sticks out like a sore thumb. It’ll be the only thing that people focus on.

Since the main goals with dressing well are to feel good about how you look and to leave a lasting impression, don’t drop the ball by ignoring one of the most important factors in looking your best. The right shirt, made from quality fabrics and tailored to perfection, is absolutely essential not only in creating a flattering silhouette, but also in complementing the other pieces in your outfit. If you’re going to go through the trouble of buying a nice suit, complete the look and honor it with a shirt that’s equally head-turning.

You’ll notice the difference as soon as you put it on, too. Fine fabrics feel exquisite in a way that nothing else does, and with a bit of tailoring, you can rest assured that you will always be the best-dressed man in the room. You’ll never be hesitant to take your jacket off, either – in fact, you might be eager to take it off just so you can show off how great your shirt looks.
