The Basic Dos and Don’ts of a Wardrobe Makeover
If you’ve set a goal to look better and feel better in the new year, there are bound to be many questions floating around in your head about where to start when it comes to weeding out your wardrobe and moving forward with a bold new style. Here are some tips to get you on the road toward a better look at any time of year!
DO start paying attention to detail. There’s a reason that we say “the Davelle is in the details” – it’s absolutely true! A lot of men tend to stick to the basics and gloss over things like accessories, ties, and shoes, but the difference between looking good and having the “wow” factor is absolutely all about the little things that set you apart.
DON’T cling to the past. Have you been wearing outdated clothes that suited the you of ten (or even twenty!) years ago, and telling yourself that it’s a cool throwback look? Just because something looked great on you back in the day doesn’t mean that it’s your best look now. It really is okay to let go of the past and choose a more updated style that reflects who you are in the present day.
DO be honest with yourself about what your body looks like now. Okay sure, a few of you might be lean, athletic 20-year-olds, but for most of us mere mortals, that’s not the case (or isn’t the case anymore). That’s absolutely fine – any body type can look great in the right clothing! But no matter what you look like, there’s nothing to be gained by trying to squeeze into clothes that don’t fit, or choosing styles that are for the body type you wish you were. Let us help you dress for the body type you actually are, and you’ll be wowed when you see the results in the mirror.
DON’T think you have to tackle everything at once. It can be psychologically overwhelming to look in your closet and imagine getting rid of everything that doesn’t suit you anymore, not to mention the financial burden of having to replace all those clothes with newer, more stylish options. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your new wardrobe doesn’t have to be, either – you can start with a few strategic foundation pieces to get the ball rolling, and then add on slowly as your budget allows.
DO seek professional advice. It’s always a surprise when we learn how others see us, as opposed to how we see ourselves. If you ask the trusted people in your life to be honest about how they would describe your current style, you might be shocked at the responses you get. It can be difficult to let go of old habits, and sometimes it’s best to get fresh ideas from someone who is an expert in style. A professional wardrobe consultation is a great way to start making better choices and put your wardrobe budget to the most effective use.
Remember, a wardrobe makeover doesn’t have to be stressful – have fun with it and enjoy the process!
