4 Tips to Go Bolder This Spring

4 Tips to Go Bolder This Spring

As the warmer weather approaches (fingers crossed!), it’s time to ditch those heavier winter clothes and start thinking about what you’re going to wear during the spring and summer.  Are you just going to dig out the same few things you wear every spring, and stick with what you know?  Spring invites us to start fresh and step out a bit more, but if you’re having trouble knowing where to start, here are a few tips.

1. Think in terms of style rather than fashion.  This is a good general guideline year-round, but it’s especially important when you’re taking a leap of faith and trying something new.  While there’s nothing wrong with indulging in some passing fashion trends here and there, if you want to spend your money building a wardrobe foundation that will last you a long time, start thinking about what you want your overall style to be, rather than focusing on whatever fashions happen to be trending at the moment.  A strong sense of personal style never goes out of fashion.

2. Experiment with color.  If you tend toward standard dark and neutral tones and have always wondered about more vibrant colors, spring and summer are great seasons to experiment.  In general, people will be wearing brighter shades during the hotter months anyway, so if you want to join in and play around with different color ideas, you’ll blend right in.

3. Let the edge of your comfort zone be your guide.  A lot of times, if you’re used to wearing only basic styles in muted colors, stepping too far out of that all at once can feel a bit ridiculous.  Even if you’re trying to pull yourself out of a rut and want to make big changes, you still want to feel comfortable and confident, so it’s okay to step slowly over the edge of your comfort zone a little bit at a time, rather than taking one huge leap into style choices you’re not yet comfortable with.  Try new things and push yourself forward, by all means, but don’t feel pressured to buy something just because you’re trying to be different.  After all, you want to buy clothes you’ll actually wear!  You can still make a statement without making yourself feel awkward.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  We tend to be creatures of habit, so the idea of changing the way we dress can be intimidating and maybe even confusing.  This is why wardrobe consultants exist – to help you make the best and most appropriate decisions so that you can achieve the bolder, more distinctive look you want.  An expert can also help you with things like selecting the right styles for your body shape, choosing colors, and adding accessories.

Spring is a fun time for freshening up your wardrobe – here’s to making this season your most stylish one ever!
